Post-War (1947)

The Great Flood of 1947

In March 1947, following one of the coldest winters on record, a rapid thaw combined with heavy rainfall caused the River Meadow to burst its banks. The flood affected over 40 homes in the village and destroyed the original wooden footbridge.

The community came together to support those affected, with the village hall serving as an emergency shelter for displaced families. The current stone bridge was built in 1948 as a memorial to the community spirit shown during this difficult time.
